Hindustan Ambassador to Reborn as EV soon:
"The King of Indian Roads: Ambassador", was made by Hindustan Motors which is an Indian automobile manufacturer based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The HM company was officially settled shortly before the Independence Act 1947, in 1942 by B.M. Birla, starting operations in a small assembly plant at Port Okha near Gujarat, the factory was later moved to Uttarpara, West Bengal in 1948 where they began manufacturing the Morris-designed Hindustan Ambassador.
Hindustan Motors had a 75% market share in the Indian car market in 1970. It produced the iconic Ambassador car, which ruled the Indian roads for many years before it was phased out. When cheap and affordable cars like Maruti 800 and other models started appearing in the country, the representative of Hindustan Motors started to face the steel challenge.
The company also couldn't keep up with the rapidly changing technology in the car industry, which led to a decline in sales and eventually closure. In 2017, Groupe PSA bought the Peugeot A brand from Birla Group, which owns Hindustan Motors.
Hindustan Motors Ambassador was offered in 2 diesel engines, 1 petrol engine, 1 CNG engine, and 1 LPG engine. A diesel engine was 1489 cc and 1995 cc, a petrol engine was 1817 cc, a CNG engine was 1817 cc while an LPG engine is 1995 cc. It was available with a manual transmission. Depending on the type and fuel, the representative had a range of 10.94 to 13.5 km/kg. The ambassador was a 5-seater 4 cylinder car.

Changes include a move to a body-colored hood, camel-colored interior, cloth seats, remote shifter, sculpted cabin and door trim, Salisbury axle, larger wheel arches, and anti-roll bar suspension, Metlon bushings, center door. locks, factory-fit track system, and optional sunroof. The sale of taxis has been banned since 1 April 2011, a year after BS IV emission standards were introduced in 11 Indian cities including Kolkata. Later, Hindustan Motors installed clean diesel engines in the vehicles to obey the new emissions regulations, allowing them to resume taxi services in Kolkata. Besides taxi services, the Ambassador had also been vastly used as the govt authorized vehicle in the country too.
The Hindustan Motors Ambassador has achieved legendary status in India after performing since 2013. Some enthusiasts are restoring them to their former glory all over India. Fewer cars are used as taxis and even fewer as daily drivers. Many journalists consider the Ambassador to be the flagship of the future. It is undoubtedly the most followed classic car in India.
On February 11, 2017, Hindustan Motors signed an agreement with Peugeot for the sale of the Ambassador brand, including models, for a considerable amount of ₹ 80 crores. But Now Hindustan Motors is planning the comeback of the iconic ambassador, in partnership with French car manufacturer Peugeot.
The partnership will enable both companies to contribute to the growth of the Indian automobile market, which is expected to reach 8 to 10 million vehicles by 2025. In addition, joint electric motors will also be produced. The type of electricity will be of high quality and will prove to be useful for the customers. It is a Rs 120 crore project and will be built at the Hindustan Motors plant in Chennai. All plans have been in operation for at least 18 months prior to completion.
In all honesty, I am excited for the next generation of Hindustan Ambassador. Details about Hindustan's next EV successor are still insufficient, however, there are a lot of things I personally want to see from it! The first thing on my list is an inspired design, of course! HM must ensure that the new model respects the design of the old one.
The final design is reminiscent of the Ambassador in some ways but still very unique. Ambassador 2.0 will be 200 mm longer, 100 mm wider, and 50 mm higher than the classic Ambassador. This electric car will have a 160 kWh battery with a range of 190-200 km after charging. These batteries will take around 5-6 hours to fully charge, but will not support fast charging. Ambassador 2.0 will be able to run from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 to 5.5 seconds.
Apart from this, the interior should be modern and beautiful, and the comfort provided should be bright. There should be a screen inside the vehicle that displays the car's size, battery level, and some other data. It will also have a regenerative system that will charge the battery and the screen will clearly display all the data.
If HM doesn't take the new ambassador to task with strategy and resources, everyone will be disappointed. These are expected to include automatic sunroofs, automatic climate control, advanced digital gadgets, connected car technology, and more. Interestingly, the name "Contessa" was HM's brand name recently, which has also led to speculation about its origins.
Technical specifications will be revealed closer to the launch of the EV, which is expected in 2024. The company is now trying to get permission from ARAI so that they can organize promotions under the norms. It is said that the electric car is finally the fate of the normal car, but it turned out to be a help to the Hindustan Ambassador 2.0.
