The Rivian R1T PickUp Truck Specifications that wins Customers

The Rivian Truck is an all-electric, battery-operated electric vehicle developed by the American company Rivian. The first production Rivian R1T rolled off the assembly line in Illinois and was delivered to customers in September 2021. The maximum range of the Rivian R1T is 505 kilometers (314 miles).

The Rivian Truck R1T and R1S Detailed:

Rivian R1T PickUp Truck

The Rivian Truck is an EV startup that has yet to produce an ICE vehicle and is producing a delivery vehicle for Amazon with two commercial vehicles, the R1S SUV and the R1T pickup. The 2022 Rivian R1T is a futuristic-looking electric pickup truck with four electric motors, a lightning-fast transmission, and a 314-mile range.

The Rivian R1T is one of the first electric trucks to enter into production and is shaping up to be a competitive market that includes the Ford F-150 Lightning and the GMC Hummer EV.

Specifications:

For the first-year model of the R1T, it has only been offered with a four-motor configuration and a 128.9 kWh "Large" battery. A smaller standard battery and a larger "Max" battery are slated to enter production, with the new car option expected to produce 600 horsepower.

The company said that early prototype testing showed that the truck could accelerate from 0-60 km/h in less than 3 seconds, can dip 1.1 m (3ft 7in) of water, and rise to 45 degrees incline. These strategic goals were largely met when the 2021 production car was launched. The company adds a number of desirable features, including a meridian stereo system, heated and ventilated seats, high-quality leather, and interior trim.

All-wheel drive is standard on the 2022 R1T, but it uses a different configuration. Each wheel on the Rivian is powered by its own electric motor. The R1T develops up to 835 horsepower and hits 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds in our test system. Adjustable air suspension will be standard at launch and can adjust the suspension height from 8 to 14 inches.

Though every Rivian Truck model currently has an electric motor at each wheel, a dual-motor model will eventually be offered. The four-motor setup allows the pickup truck to do what Rivian calls Tank Turn, which coordinates the electric motor to turn the wheel in the right direction to turn the vehicle on its axis. In the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the company demonstrated the R1T's off-road capabilities and on-road performance.

The chassis includes brakes, suspension, and a cooling system with a central battery. Rivian's flat, low center of gravity chassis is an EV skateboard style, allowing for direct manufacturer conversions for other body styles.

Rivian filed a patent application on a new hard cornering system where a separate motor is placed between the wheels that are turned at the rear, this software supporting the feature is not yet ready, so it is not included in the first production trucks in late 2021.

Towing Capability:

The Company says that each Rivian R1T can tow 11,000 pounds and provides a payload of 1760 pounds. But, unsurprisingly, we found that towing a trailer drains the battery faster than going idle, so buyers who plan to use the power of the truck would be wise to use get a model with a larger battery pack when available. In our test towing a 6100-pound twin-axle trailer, the R1T's range dropped to just 110 miles at 70 mph.

Storage:

The cargo storage is 1.4m (4.5 feet) long, and the width in the narrowest point, between the wheel arches, is 50 in (1.3 m). The "frunk" is located where the engine would be in the combustion engine truck provides 11 cubic feet (0.31 m3) of additional cargo space and has 12 V DC outlets, 15A/120V AC outlet, and drain.

Another storage space is 11.6 cubic feet (0.33 m3) 65 in. (1.7 m) long Gear Tunnel, which spans the width of the truck and can be used to store sports gear or many accessories. It also has a 12V DC outlet and a 15A/120V AC input.

Economy:

The R1T is one of the first electric trucks to achieve EPA fuel economy ratings for four-wheel drive. R1T provides 74 MPGe in the city, 66 MPGe in the highway, and 70 MPGe combined. During our test with the R1T, which included towing, the car averaged just 35 MPGe.

Off-Road Capability:

The Rivian pickup truck has an air suspension that allows for 6.5 inches (17 cm) of vertical travel and ground clearance can be as low as 7.9 inches (20 cm) or as high as 14.4 inches (37 cm). Depending on the wheel configuration, the maximum ground clearance can be higher, at 14.9 in (38 cm) and the maximum depth in water is 43.1 inches (1094.74 mm). Approach, departure, and overpass angles are 35.5, 30, and 26.4 degrees respectively. Bespoke Pirelli 275/65 R20 off-road tires are optional.

Custom drive modes that adjust the suspension, ride height, throttle, and steering - include "All-Purpose, Sport, Safety, Tow and Off-Road", plus all-terrain modes including "Rock Crawl, Soft Sand and Rally".

Rivian offers a choice of cars for going out, the shield under which it is made comfortable, the kitchen includes two induction cookers (1440W each, Dometic CI20), a sink, 30 parts of food / outdoor food which is compatible with R1T gear tunnel, and a three-person tent.

Infotainment and Connectivity:

The Rivian Truck Interior includes a large 16.0-inch infotainment screen integrated into the R1T's streamlined dash and a second digital display that serves as a shift check display. The infotainment interface uses expanded tiles for individual features with the main options (navigation, media, climate control, etc.) available at all times at the bottom of the screen. Instead of going into sub-menus, options fall into tiles to reduce system complexity. Surprisingly, the Rivian stopped including Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, two features that buyers can expect at this price.

Driver Assistant:

The Rivian Truck has a driver assistance package called Driver+. On some roads, the truck is able to steer automatically and control its speed by following the driver's instructions, such as AutoPilot. During hands-free driving, the driver must keep his eyes on the road and the Rivian R1T has an in-cabin camera to monitor the driver's activity. The hands-free feature works well on straight roads but requires driver input in turning roads.

Warranty and Awards:

All Rivian truck models come with a generous warranty that includes bumper coverage of five years or 60,000 miles and battery and transmission warranty of eight years or 175,000 miles.

Rivian R1T received the 2022 Truck of the Year award from Motor Trend.
